There’s just something magical about sharing a piece of home with visitors, and what better way than through food? Especially Cape Malay cuisine—one of the most flavorful and unique food cultures we have in South Africa.

Cape Malay food is a mix of sweet, spicy, and aromatic flavors, influenced by Malaysian, Indonesian, and African cultures. It’s a must-try for anyone visiting Cape Town. From denningvleis (a slow-cooked lamb dish) to bobotie (a spiced mince dish with an egg topping), the flavors are unforgettable.

And let’s not forget koesisters for dessert—those soft, syrupy doughnuts dusted with coconut. Yum!

Finding the Best African Restaurant

I want to make this experience extra special, so I’ve been researching the best African restaurants in Cape Town. My friend Tebogo is a foodie, so the food has to be top-notch.

Here’s what I’ve found so far:

1. Bo-Kaap Kombuis

4. Mariams Kitchen (for a casual stop)

If we want to keep it simple and quick, Mariams Kitchen is famous for the best Gatsby in town. This legendary Cape Town sandwich is big, messy, and absolutely delicious—a must-have!

After the Feast: Sightseeing in Cape Town

Once our bellies are full, we’ll head to the V&A Waterfront for a relaxed stroll. The vibe there is always lively, and I know my guests will enjoy the mix of shopping, music, and ocean views.

Then, of course, we have to take the cable car up Table Mountain. The views from the top are breathtaking—Cape Town in all its glory!

The Final Choice?

I’m still deciding, but I’m leaning towards Bo-Kaap Kombuis for that true Cape Malay feel or GOLD Restaurant for the ultimate African experience. Either way, one thing’s for sure: Cape Town is going to impress my guests!
